The US-Netherlands Connection Professional Team Program 2013

Begun in 2007 as a short-course for water managers, the US-Netherlands Connection Project (USNC) is now international in scope and now has two separate programs.  The Professional Team Program will be in the Netherlands Monday, May 13 through Friday, May 17, 2013.

9:00 am -10:30 am Maeslantbarrier Rotterdam. After an introduction movie the professional guide will talk about Flood Risk Management in the Netherlands, from the 1953 Flood Disaster to the Delta Works and the latest developments. After this, we'll visit the Maeslant Storm Surge Barrier itself.
10:30 am Departure from Maeslant Barrier.
11:30 am Arrival Maasvlakte II.
11:30-12:30pm  Guided tour by Boskalis on Maasvlakte 2 itself.
12:30-1:30pm Lunch at office of Boskalis on Maasvlakte I. 
1:30pm Departure Maasvlakte I
2:15 pm Arrival at City Hall, City of Rotterdam.
2:15 pm-2:30 pm Welcome.
2:30-3:30 Presentation by Arnoud Molenaar, Program Manager of the Rotterdam Climate Proof Program on 'Rotterdam and Climate Change'.
3:30 pm-3:50pm Presentation by Dr. Daniel Goedbloed, Advisor Water Department, Municipality of Rotterdam on 'Underground Water Storage, Water Plazas and the Green Roof Program'
3:50-4:00 pm Getting ready for walking tour.
4:00-5:00pm Walk from City Hall, along Westersingel (water storage integrated in urban landscape), visit where the city plans to create more water storage capacity (kruispleingarage), and walk on to 'Dakakker' (small scale urban agriculture on rooftop).  
5:00-5:10pm Short walk back to City Hall.
