Mr. Appelbaum leads the Integrated Planning group for ARCADIS’ national water management practice. Stu came to ARCADIS after a distinguished 35-year career with the Corps of Engineers in water resources planning and policy, program management, ecosystem restoration, and adaptive management. In his last position with the Corps, he served as the Chief of the Jacksonville District’s Planning and Policy Division. Stu also served as the program manager for the Everglades restoration program successfully led the development and implementation of the Everglades restoration program. He is a recognized expert in the planning and implementation of large-scale ecosystem restoration projects.
Stu received numerous awards from the Corps of Engineers, including the meritorious Civilian Service Award; two Superior Civilian Service Awards; two Commanders Awards for Civilian Service; the Achievement Medal for Civilian Service; and the Bronze Order of the de Fleury Medal. He has also received a number of awards for his work on Everglades restoration including the Palladium Medal, a joint award from the American Academy of Engineering Societies and the National Audubon Society.
Stu was born and raised in New York City. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of New York and a Master of Science degree in Water Resources Engineering from the George Washington University. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Water Resources Association, the Society of American Military Engineers, and the Army Engineer Association.
